Can ChatGPT Find Your Business? A Free Tool That Scores Your Website

More people now ask AI assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI answers the questions they used to type into a search box. If those assistants can't read your website, they can't recommend you.

geo-score is a free, open-source tool that checks whether AI answer engines can reach, read, trust and quote your site. It gives a score from 0 to 100 and a list of fixes. It looks at things like:

  • whether your robots.txt file lets AI crawlers in;
  • whether your page text shows up without JavaScript;
  • whether you have an llms.txt file (a short guide to your site written for AI);
  • whether your pages carry structured data that tells machines who you are, where you are and what you sell.

We tried it on our own site first. goldenrockadvancements.com scored 76 out of 100 ("Solid"). AI crawlers were allowed, every page's text was readable, and our llms.txt was in good shape. We lost points for small things: no business ("Organization") markup with our logo, no breadcrumb markup on inner pages, missing update dates in our sitemap, and no links to our social profiles. We're fixing those now. A second site of ours scored 55, mostly because it was missing the same basics.

Cost: the scoring itself is free and needs no account. The tool also has optional features that ask AI engines directly whether they mention you. Those use your own AI accounts and cost a little per question.

Who should care: any local business that wants to show up when someone asks an AI assistant, "Who's a good plumber near me?"
